Unimportant

How can something so beautiful,
Something so calming,
Something so necessary,
Feel so unimportant?
Does the air I breathe believe itself to be unimportant because it is quiet?
Or does it believe it is unnecessary because it is unseen?
Does it not know that 4 seconds without it would cause my heart to stop and the world to crumble?
Does it not realize that its touch,
Though gentle,
Is what we long to feel upon our face on the hottest of days?
Does water believe itself to be unimportant because it is not as stable as land?
Or does it believe it is unnecessary because it cannot be held?
Does it not realize that it gives me strength,
And without it I am weak?
Has it forgotten that hidden within its gentle flows,
There is a strength that can capsize any vessel,
A freedom that can fill any empty cavity,
A sound so quiet that I cannot help but be at peace when I hear its voice.
How can something so essential to my life feel so unimportant?
Without your presence, I am undone.
