The Mathematics of the Holy Spirit

FILLED

Acts 2:36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” 37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” 38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” 40 And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.” 41 Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.

PEMDAS Problem: Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction.

Some of you may say that this is Beyond your Human Ability already! The natural can mirror the spiritual realm.

When I look at this passage, I see the Holy Spirit’s equation. Peter finished preaching and his listeners realized they had a problem that they could not solve. His response: Repent.

Subtraction. Repentance is changing your old way of thinking and turning from your sinful ways. Allowing the Lord to remove the idol that does not belong: habit, self, behaviors.

Addition. One of the things my mom always says is that the Lord doesn’t take, He replaces. He doesn’t just free us from the law of sin and death, He then fills us with Himself.Verse 39 says that “the promise is for you”. That’s so exciting!

God is adding something valuable, precious, and immensely powerful to your life. He is the pearl of great price that Jesus talks about, and we can treat Him as though He’s optional. But there is no way to live out this walk without the Holy Spirit. He is essential.

The gifts that the Lord has put inside you are valuable, your qualities and personalities are valuable, you as a puzzle piece are valuable BUT the Holy Spirit inside you is of GREATER VALUE.

He seals and confirms our salvation. He cleanses us. He convicts us.  He teaches us how to pray. He reminds us of the Words spoken by the Lord. He produces fruit in our lives. He searches our hearts and minds. He comforts us. He gives us wisdom. He intercedes for us. He incites us to worship. He gives us gifts. He anoints us. He renews and refreshes us. He brings life. He gives power … THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE GREATEST ADDITION TO OUR LIVES!

Right Division and Wrong Division– v. 40, “be saved from this crooked and perverse generation.” There is a division that should happen between believers and the world. Our mentality, perspectives, responses are incompatible. Oil and water.

However, there is a division that is not of the Lord. In our natural bodies, cell division (mitosis) happens in order to produce new cells, but too much cell division is a sign of cancer. When we divide over our preferences, offenses, and hurts, we build walls that divide and allow the disease and instability in. The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy.

Multiplication– vs. 41- on that day about 3,000 souls were added. 3,000 from 1 sermon, no praise team, no sound system. AMAZING!

The Holy Spirit’s math is so different from ours. I’m convinced that multiplication is His natural tendency. From the beginning, His first words to man was “be fruitful and multiply.”

Don’t despise the day of small beginnings, but also don’t negate the multiplication power of the Spirit just because it seems impossible, unlikely, or unrealistic in our eyes and minds.

2 Corinthians- He will multiply your seed sown.

FRUIT IS BEING PRODUCED.

  1. Love this! Surely the HolySpirit is the greatest mathematician. I mean just look at how mathematical concept was involved in the totality of redemption.

Thanks for sharing this. More grace
